RANDOM TRE
New Bridge: In the last two years they have opened three new bridges over the Tiber River. They are all just for pedestrians and bikes. This one goes nowhere on the other side.
St. Bartholomew on Tiber Island: This minor basilica located on Tiber Island was established in the 10th century and flooded and renovated many times since then. It has many old paintings, statues, etc.
The reason we went there was to see the cannonball in the wall. During the siege of Rome in 1849 with the basilica crowded it was hit be a cannonball that stuck in the wall. No one was hurt and it was left there as a sign of a miracle. This was the Second French Republic siege under President Napoleon that produced the short lived Republic of Italy.
Supreme Court: This is the front of the Supreme Court building. The other side which actually may be the front faces the river and this is the side you normally see.
Coliseum Bike Racers: This year they closed off the streets by the Coliseum and had bike races. This must have been tough because it was on the section that has bumpy basalt stones.
Line C: The city of Rome is building a new subway line. The construction has reached Fiori Imperiali in front of the Coliseum which is undergoing a billion dollar renovation which is supposed to take 2000 years to complete.
Tai Chi: Every Sunday this guy gives Tai Chi lessons for free in a park. Our friend Sandra goes so we joined her one Sunday. The classes are two hours but we lasted only one.
Church of Santa Maria della Pace: This church, located near Piazza Navona, has a Rafael fresco of the sibyls. It is located in an alcove below a nice quiet room where you can sit and have a pastry and coffee.
Roman Numerals: We have passed by the Ponte Milvio bridge many times on our bike trips north but this time we noticed something funny about the Roman numerals – some of them were backwards. Neither the Queen nor I knew what this meant. We had to look it up. I will not tell you – you will have to look it up.
Modern Art??? Near out apartment is a gallery that specializes in modern art. This was displayed in the window.
Warning Sign: This was the warning sign in the subway. You do not want to get caught in the door after seeing this sign.
