ROME - SPRING 2011
FACTOID: In 735 BCE Romulus and Remus, brought up by a she-wolf, founded the city of Rome on the banks of the Tiber River. They settled on different hills of Rome and fought over who was in charge of the city. Romulus and Remus fought to see who would decide and Romulus killed his brother so the city is named Rome and not Reme. On April 21st Rome celebrated its 2764th birthday.
This is an interesting time to be in Rome. First, this month is the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy so there are parades and fireworks. Then there is Easter and Passover. The 25th of April is the 2,764th birthday of the city of Rome. Finally, on April 30th and May 1st they are going to have the beatification of the previous Pope John Paul and they expect 2 - 3 million people to come to Rome.
This trip to Rome should be called the artichoke tour. It turns out that at this time of the year many towns around Rome have artichoke festivals and all the restaurants feature artichokes. We managed to go to two festivals. The photo shows the King and Queen in front of the artichoke tower at the festival in Ladispoli. For more photos click on the Artichoke link above.
And what would Rome be like without traffic and unusual parking conditions… This scooter was parked between two cars on the street. The question is: Which came first the cars or the scooter? If you had a scooter would you ever park it between two cars like this?
..and then there is the food.. or what is left of the food after we finish…for more food - click on the food link above...
