The King Brought His Natitude to Rome
The King normally wears his Brooklyn Dodger hat in Rome. No one has ever said anything to me about it since I doubt there are many old Dodger fans here. Every once in a while in the US someone will mistake for the Boston `B' which it is not. Since the Washington Nationals won their division the King decided to wear his Nationals hat. The first day in Rome we passed a group of US college students on their way to the train station. The teacher trailing behind the group looked at my hat and said `congratulations'. Took me a second to realize what he meant.
Photo Ops
On our first attempt to take a picture at the Coliseum it started to pour just as we were getting out of the metro station at the coliseum. Everyone who was outside came into the station including all the phony gladiators who take pictures with tourists.
This photo is of the Queen at the Coliseum. There were lots of police there but we avoided them by going to an area where the tourists do not normally stand. We grabbed a tourist with a camera for a quick picture.
...and the King at the Coliseum with his new Italian cap.
Graffiti
The King and Queen have been going to Hostaria Romana for a couple of years. It is a trattoria located near the Trevi Fountain and was written up in the New York Times a few years ago as one of the best 5 small trattorias. It has now become pretty crowded with tourists. We have normally sat in the front part of the restaurant but on our last visit for the first time we were put in the back room. The walls of this room are covered with names and signatures. The waiters supply the markers. This time we added our name in the one spot on the wall that had not been written on.
The Androgynous Armani
For those of you who follow my Armani ad pictures and follow the themes that have changed from lively, colorful half dressed ladies to black and white photos to half clothed men to last year's `What sex are they?' - this years photo carries on the androgynous look. BOO!!!! Bring back the half naked ladies!!!

Last spring we noticed a new bronze plaque located near the statue of Giordano Bruno in Campo dei Fiori. Bruno was burned at the stake in 1600 for heresy. He preached that the earth revolved around the sun contrary to the churches view of the opposite at the time. This was the time of the inquisition in Europe. This was the time when the church, for the same reasons, imprisoned Galileo. The new plaque memorializes the day when a number of Talmuds were burned in Campo dei Fiori. It started a wave of Talmud burnings all over Italy. The Talmud is ancient rabbinic writings that set out Jewish law.
The plaque is fairly new - the date on it is 2011. We assume it was put in place around September 9th last year. It is on the ground and people walk on it since it is right in the middle of the daily market of Campo dei Fiori. It was very dirty and hardly readable. The King and Queen have decided to clean it on our trips to Rome so one night on our way to dinner we did our first cleaning. The first picture is the before, the second is the Queen cleaning it and the third is the result.
The King went on a bike ride to Campo the next day to see what the plaque looked like after a day of people walking on it. It was still bright and shiny and was located in an aisle between the booths set up each day for the market in Campo. As the King watched almost every person who passed by looked down at the plaque which was now very visible.
