RANDOM DUE
Succa della Pace
We are here during the Jewish holiday of Sukkot which is a fall holiday `Festival of the Tabernacles'. During this period lasting 6 or 7 days Jews build a `sukkah' or small hut outside and have all their meals in it. We happened upon this Sukkah for Peace in the middle of Piazza Farnese in downtown Rome. We were not able to find the Sukkah for War.
Shoes for the Italian Ladies
The shoe stores in Rome always display the latest in fashion. There are many shoe stores all over the city and the two photos below are some of the shoes we have seen this year.
For the second shoe the 539 euros works out to about $700. There is no indication what the cost of repairing a broken ankle would be.
..and finally, this shoe without a heel!!! Daughter Ruth claims that women who wear these shoes are referred to as `cows' since they look like hooves.
The Terrace and Apartment
The Queen insists on keeping the terrace clean and well landscaped. Her work on the plants and flowers has made the appearance 300 percent better and most of the things she has planted over the years have thrived.
The apartment itself has had some problems, which keep growing with each visit. On this visit the bed had a broken leg and one of us (the Queen) was at a steep angle on one side of the bed.
The cabinet also had whole sections that had fallen off.
Bike Paths
South Along River
We had not been on the bike path going to the southern end in a while so we decided to go. At one point just before we crossed the river to the other side the path was under construction. There was no sign of any detour but we could see in the distance the path continued. We managed to find out way around the obstacle by going through an apartment complex pictured on the right.
About three miles from home the King developed a flat in his rear tire. I blew the tire up and we rode for a while before I had to blow it up again. It took 5 `blowups' to get us home. I could have changed the tire but we were at the end of a 25-mile ride, it was hot and it was the back tire - always harder to get on and off. This is the bike without the tire on the terrace. I took the tire to the local store to have them change the tube and fix it.
South Along Cristoforo Columbo
There is a bike path that goes a fair distance to the south. The path is mostly on the sidewalk and there is a striped portion for bikes. It is very nicely maintained but is not used much. We rarely see other bikers on it. At one point there is a break where an old Roman road used to be.
Tevere Animal
When we bike along the Tevere we often see an animal that swims and suns itself on the riverbank. This guy had come out of the water to feed on garbage that a man was putting out for the ducks. We are not sure what this critter is but it has nice whiskers.
