There is a whole list of famous people that have been there. We met one of the Queen's science colleagues there for tea and pastries. The waiters are fancy and the interior has not changed much since the 18<FONT SIZE="1" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >th</FONT> century.</div> <div> <IMG SRC="2d7358c20.jpg" border=0 width="600" height="450" ALIGN="BOTTOM" HSPACE="0" VSPACE="0"></div> <bR> <div> <B>Wedding Photos</B></div> <bR> <div> Many Italians take wedding photos at the major landmarks in Rome - like the Spanish steps or the Trevi Fountain. This trip we saw a couple along the Tiber River under the Isola Tiberina bridge.</div> <div> <IMG SRC="2d7558c20.jpg" border=0 width="600" height="450" ALIGN="BOTTOM" HSPACE="0" VSPACE="0"></div> <bR> <div> <B>The Kitchen Tool Guy</B></div> <bR> <div> In Campo de Fiori there is a stand where they sell all these tools for cutting fruits and vegetables. We have brought several back as gifts and they are very handy. It used to be owned by an older man who wore a Star of David and we got to know him over the years. He always had a Bangladeshi helper. He died about two years ago and his helper has now taken over. They really put on a neat show and always get crowds. We wonder what happens to all the fruits and vegetable parts that they wind up with. </div> <div> <IMG SRC="2d7758c20.jpg" border=0 width="600" height="450" ALIGN="BOTTOM" HSPACE="0" VSPACE="0"></div> <bR> <div> <B>Tweed Day on Motorbikes</B></div> <bR> <div> In Washington DC there is one day each year where people get on bicycles and are dressed in tweed. Tweed known as the Gentleman's Sporting Fabric was popular in the 19<FONT SIZE="1" COLOR="#000000" FACE="Arial" >th</FONT> Victorian age. While we were in Rome they had a Tweed day but all people were either on motorcycles or motorbikes. </div> <div> <IMG SRC="2d7958c20.jpg" border=0 width="600" height="450" ALIGN="BOTTOM" HSPACE="0" VSPACE="0"></div> <bR> <div> We saw little tweed but lots of people were riding all dressed up.</div> <div> <IMG SRC="2d7b58c20.jpg" border=0 width="600" height="450" ALIGN="BOTTOM" HSPACE="0" VSPACE="0"></div> <bR> <div> <B>Bicycle Only Days</B></div> <bR> <div> One day per month the downtown streets of Rome near the forum are closed of to cars, taxis and buses. Lots of families take advantage of this.</div> <div> <IMG SRC="2d7d58c20.jpg" border=0 width="600" height="450" ALIGN="BOTTOM" HSPACE="0" VSPACE="0"></div> <bR> <div> <B>Italian Gym Day</B></div> <bR> <div> One of the advantages of staying in the apartment in the Monti is that we often wandered upon some activity that we did not know was happening. One Sunday there was a celebration of all the gymnastic national teams from Italy. They performed on Fiori Imperiali which was closed for the day.</div> <div> <IMG SRC="2d7f58c20.jpg" border=0 width="600" height="450" ALIGN="BOTTOM" HSPACE="0" VSPACE="0"></div> <bR> <div> <B>Redskins Fan????</B></div> <bR> <div> We were on the subway going somewhere when I spotted a Washington Redskins football team hat. That is an odd sighting in a foreign country and it was the second one I had seen on this trip. The young man wearing the hat was Italian and he knew nothing about the Redskins. He just liked the color and the hat.
