RANDOM UNO
Armani - NOT!!
Since we were not in the same area of Rome this time we did not pass the large advertisement each day. We did go for dinner one night in our usual neighborhood and I took this photo. No more cool Armani people - It is now a boring Apple ad.
The Monti Apartment
Our friend's apartment had a small balcony and since they had been gone no one took care of it. The Queen immediately started to weed and water.
They were doing work on the street in front of the apartment. Slowly working up the block there was a short time where we could not exit. That is my bike in front of entrance to apartment building.
One of the favorite spots for young people to hang out was the fountain in the Monti. This is the morning after trash.
Bike Path Art Installation
This was an art installation on the bike path. We had no idea what it was for.
We have noticed that the `nasone' fountains in Rome are slowly disappearing or not working. This is one along the bike path that is still going strong. When we first lived in Rome this was one on almost every corner in some neighborhoods.
Movie Making in Rome
We were happy to see that the movie industry is still alive in Rome. During our stay we saw several vans for the movie filming set up in various parts of the city.
William Kentridge Mural
In 2016 William Kentridge put up a large mural on the walls of the Tiber River. The walls were very dirty and he sandblasted in some areas to make 500 depictions of Roman history. It was supposed to be ten years before the dirt took over and covered the walls again. It has only been three years and the dirt has now made most of the artist work disappear. The graffiti does not help.
Magda's Shop
This little shop used to contain the work of an artist from Romania who lived in Rome. She was a glass blower and made very nice small pieces as well as jewelry. Last year she closed up the shop and returned home. We had become friends with her and almost hosted her on her trip to DC last year. The shop has been converted into what appears to be an antique shop.
Mushroom Season
The fall is mushroom season in Italy. The Queen stands in front of a mushroom display in one of the local markets.
Piazza Republica Fountain
This fountain is strictly driven by water pressure. At certain times of the year - like the fall - the pressure is the best and the fountain spews water higher than at any other time.
Church of San Crisogono
We have walked by this church many times in our time in Rome but never went in. One of our friends sent us a new listing for Atlas Obscura that listed it so we decided to visit. The original church was built in the 4th century and was rebuilt in the 12th century and then again in the 17th century. The excavation under the church was where we visited. This is a 4th century tomb with bones.
A crypt again from the 4th century.
There were some frescoes on the walls.
This is all 4th century ruins of the church.
Roman Parking
Parking on the median strip is common in Rome.
Termini Taxi Line
In NYC at Penn Station the taxi line is always so long. If you walk one block north, south, east or west from the station you can easily flag down a cab. The same thing for Rome!!!!
Restaurant Signs
This was a restaurant in Termni, the train station.
This sign could only be in Italy.
Uber
On this day Uber comes to Rome. They tried to have a city bike program a few years ago but it failed badly. Lots of stolen bikes and many we saw dumped in the Tiber River.
