HASH RUNS
Hash Number 1
This run started at San Paolo Fuori le Mura (Saint Paul Outside the Walls). The first church in this area was built in the 4th Century over the grave of Saint Paul. Earthquakes and fires ruined a number of subsequent churches until the present one was rebuilt in the 19th Century. There were only about 10 people at the start of the hash. They only run hashes in Rome now every three to four weeks. When we were here in 2004 there was a hash every week and usually 20 - 25 people showed up.
After the run we went to a restaurant for pizza and beer. The place was very large and every wall was covered with wine bottles. Not sure how many there were but it had to be several thousand bottles.
Hash Run 2
The second hash run that we attended started from Peter and Gretchen's in the Monti. The King was the co-hare with Peter and we set the trail different than the one that Peter normally does. This is the group at the start. We had a fair number of newcomers that either discovered the hash on it website ( www.rh3.it) or from friends at various UN agencies in Rome.
The group heads up one of the streets in the Monti. It is hard to set the trail in this area since the flour that is followed needs to be put in a spot where the group can see it and it will not be parked on by a car.
The HH on the ground in flour is a Hash Halt - a stop so that people can catch up with the group.
The trail went by the house of a friend and this is the doorway to their apartment building. The door was huge was the actual entryway cut in the door was small.
The ending circle on the terrace where we normally leave our bikes when we leave Rome.
